Dr. Cappello receives the SWIM award from St. Vincent's Foundation

Dr. Nancy Cappello, President and Founder of Are You Dense, Inc., was recognized for her continued pursuit of an early breast cancer detection for women with dense breast tissue.  St. Vincent's Foundation presented Dr. Cappello with the distinguised SWIM Across the Sound Award. Since her advanced stage diagnosis in 2004, after a decade of "normal" mammograms, Dr. Cappello has fought for justice for women with dense breast tissue - by ensuring that all women know their breast density and what it means to them for early detection. Women with dense breast tissue need to have access to the appropriate screening tools to find cancer at its earliest stage when it is most treatable.

The luncheon's featured speaker was Geralyn Lucas, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28.  Her story is featured in her book and movie, "Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy."
