Joan Lunden presents Dr. Nancy Cappello with Susan G.Komen Promise Award from Komen of Connectiicut

Connecticut resident Joan Lunden presents Dr. Nancy Cappello with the prestigious PROMISE award from Connecticut Komen. The leadership award is given to a crusader in the community who has made an impact in the service of breast health to reduce deaths from the disease.

Prior to the ceremony on stage, Joan and Nancy led the survivor parade.

Joan and Nancy have something in common with 40% of women - they have dense breast tissue which limits the sensitivity of the mammogram to find cancer; thus delaying the diagnosis until at a later stage.

Joan's triple negative cancer was invisible by 3D mammography, seen by a routine screening ultrasound.

  • Are You Dense? Fact #4:

American College of Radiology describes women with "Dense Breast Tissue" as having a higher than average risk of Breast Cancer.

  • Are You Dense? Fact #5:

While a mammogram detects 98% of cancers in women with fatty breasts, it finds only 48% in women with dense breasts.
