Michigan Breast Density Reporting Bill becomes Law on June 1st. The Detroit Free Press and WOTV 4 Women tackled the impact of dense breast tissue on missed, delayed and advanced stage breast cancer. Teresa Hendricks-Piltsch worked tirelessly to advocate for density reporting to Michigan women as her advanced stage breast cancer was missed for years by mammography. Teresa reports," My surgeon reported that my tumor most likely had been growing for years." And for years her mammography reporting results reported NORMAL.
Dr. Nancy Cappello, who, like Teresa, had an advanced stage breast cancer, metastasized to 13 lymph nodes, within weeks of her 11th NORMAL mammogram. It was only at this time, did her team of docs inform her of the impact of Dense Breast Tissue on the reliability of her mammograms. "My radiologist knew about my dense breasts; my referring doctor knew about it; everybody seemed to know but me," reported Dr. Cappello.

Dr. Renee Wayne Pinsky who testified against the Michigan bill is taking credit for it now.In The Detroit Free Press Publication above, Pinsky seems to credit herself for fine-tuning Michigan’s Law - But survivors watched in horror as Pinsky testified AGAINST the bill.Maybe she had a change in heart as she reviewed the decades of studies on the impact of density on mammography reliability.
